Pop-Pop boats are a fun toy with a simple steam engine made from recyclable tin. Real steam propels the pop-pop boat, made in a tiny boiler and powered by a candle or oil burner. The pop-pop boat gets its name because it makes a pop-pop or putt-putt sound when it runs.

The pop-pop boat can get very hot, so adults need to supervise when children use it.

Fill the coil pipe under the pop-pop boat with water. You can use the water dropper that comes with the boat or fill it under a running tap. After filling the boiler pipe with water, put the pop-pop boat in a bucket of water. Then, place the candle on the spoon, light it, and put the spoon inside the boat under the aluminum boiler hood. Wait a few minutes for the water in the boiler to heat up, turn into steam, and make the boat start moving.

The candle heats the water in the boiler pipes, turns into steam and little water droplets. Steam pushes the droplets of water out of the pipe and moves the boat. This process makes the iconic pop-pop or putt-putt sound, which is how the boat got its name.
